Composition of Colloidal Organic Matter in Phytoplankton Exudates

چکیده
The colloidal organic matter (COM) was isolated from the exudates of three cultured phytoplonkters, namely chlophyte nanoflagellate Tetraselmis sp., diatom Chaetoceros socialis and dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum, Gulf Trieste (northern Adriatic Sea). isolation COM performed by ultrafiltration with molecular weight cut-off membranes 5 kDa final desalinisation dialysis. composition characterised using C elemental analysis 1H NMR spectroscopy compared a marine sample same area (Gulf Trieste). By spectroscopy, it possible to semi-quantitatively determine concentrations main biochemical constituents present in samples. results showed that phytoplankton predominantly composed polysaccharides, minor contributions proteins especially lipids. Therefore, mainly contributes pool polysaccharide fraction less protein lipid fractions.

Net production and consumption of fluorescent colored dissolved organic matter by natural bacterial assemblages growing on marine phytoplankton exudates.
An understanding of the distribution of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the oceans and its role in the global carbon cycle requires a better knowledge of the colored materials produced and consumed by marine phytoplankton and bacteria. In this work, we examined the net uptake and release of CDOM by a natural bacterial community growing on DOM derived from four phytoplankton species c...

Few studies have examined the partitioning of organic matter in upwelling systems, despite the fact that these systems play a key role in carbon and nitrogen budgets in the ocean. We examined the production and partitioning of phytoplankton-derived organic matter in deck incubations off Oregon during the upwelling season. During exponential growth of the phytoplankton, $78% of total accumulated...
متن کاملChemotaxis toward phytoplankton drives organic matter partitioning among marine bacteria.
The microenvironment surrounding individual phytoplankton cells is often rich in dissolved organic matter (DOM), which can attract bacteria by chemotaxis. These "phycospheres" may be prominent sources of resource heterogeneity in the ocean, affecting the growth of bacterial populations and the fate of DOM. However, these effects remain poorly quantified due to a lack of quantitative ecological ...

Abstract Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total dissolved amino acids (TDAA) were measured in high (Chukchi Sea) and low (Beaufort Sea) productivity regions of the Western Arctic Ocean to investigate the composition an...
متن کاملChemical composition of biodegradable dissolved organic matter in streamwater
Plug-flow biofilm reactors colonized by microorganisms in streamwater were used to measure the concentration and composition of biodegradable dissolved organic C (BDOC) in White Clay Creek. During the 4-month study period, DOC ranged from 0.8 to 10.4 mg C liter-’ and was, on average, composed of 75% humic substances, 13% carbohydrates, 2% amino acids, and 18% > 100 kDa. The carbohydrates were p...
